L’ “Illustrated Manual of Medical Plants”, d’en Iwasaki Kan’en (1786−1842),es considerat el primer llibre d’art botànic a gran escala del Japó. Es va publicar a finals del període Edo i comprèn 92 volums, incloent més de 1.900 varietats de plantes.
